Designing Operations for Riyadh’s 135km Sports Boulevard

Sports Boulevard

Sports Boulevard in Riyadh is Saudi Arabia's most ambitious community wellness project. A 135-kilometre linear park operating 24/7, 365 days a year.

Built along former power line corridors, this extraordinary green ribbon sometimes stretches 50 metres wide, sometimes 450 metres, creating a unique urban challenge. Unlike mega-events with opening ceremonies, this needed to work at 4am for night-shift workers and during Ramadan family visits. With no regional precedent for operating a park this scale, covering four million square metres, Sports Boulevardengaged Trivandi's expertise to make this vision operationally successful.

Understanding how to operate a 135-kilometre linear park required looking beyond the region's mega-event experience to study the world's most successful community spaces.

"The benchmarking for this is not Expo Dubai or the FIFA World Cup. The benchmark is Hyde Park or Central Park in New York,"

We analysed everything from Sydney's Centennial Park to New York's Highline, studying visitor flow patterns, maintenance cycles, and seasonal staffing models.

Trivandi developed comprehensive operational frameworks covering crowd flow for different activity zones, emergency evacuation procedures, daily maintenance schedules, and seasonal staffing patterns. We mapped visitor journeys for serious athletes, families with young children, and elderly couples on evening walks – each needing different experiences and operational support.

Our team spent over six months embedded in Riyadh, working as an extension of Sports Boulevard's team rather than external consultants.

Crucially, we transferred our knowledge directly to the Saudi team who would run this space long-term, training the people who would actually operate this extraordinary community asset.

The result? The first two kilometres opened in January 2025, with people using it exactly as designed - for morning runs, family gatherings, and community activities.

"We are delighted with the work produced. All of your team worked to a very high standard."

said Sports Boulevard.

Our operational framework is now being studied by other giga-projects across the region. But the real measure of success? Decades of daily use by millions creating a healthier, happier Riyadh.
